I was born and raised in the Evansville, Indiana area. Most of my time after highschool was spent starting my career in computer aided design and architecture. Both subjects required extensive amounts of learning and time which means I didn't do much outside of my career for many years.
It wasn't until around 1998 that I really started getting interested in adventure activities. I've been around boating pretty much all my life and it was the one activity I did manage to participate in during my career. I had my own Rinker boat for while and then ended up swapping it for a Sea-Doo GFX RFI jet-ski. I had a lot fun on the water until I discovered motorcycles and eventually the Sea-Doo was sold.
I spent all my free time on the motorcycle and this is when I started traveling to hiking locations for the first time. Few years later I took up rock climbing and pretty much dedicated the next two years to learning and training for it. I started kayaking after a friend showed interest in the sport. I've always had an interest in kayaking, but never pursued it. We finally got some kayaks and spent the following summer exploring waterways in around the Kentucky Lake area. I did some solo trips to Southern Illinois also.
Toward the end of that summer I started getting interested in dualsport motorcycling again. I learned of the sport after owning my cruiser motorcycle, but after an accident I quit riding for awhile and lost interest in motorcycling all together. The same kayaking friend also thought dualsporting sounded fun and before we knew it, both of us had KLR650's. We spent the rest of the summer looking for off-road opportunities and had a great time until winter set in.
The following summer finally arrives and I decided to ditch my beat-up truck and get something more reliable and fuel effecient. I found an Explorer Sport V6 4x4 which is absolutely perfect for my needs. The first thing I did was hit up the local Yakima dealer and get a rack system for the top. I needed something to hold several kayaks and a mountain bike. Yep, my newest activity is Mountain Biking which is another sport I've been interested in for awhile. The Yakima rack has worked out great so far, I've had a combination of everything up there so far and it's help up extremely well.
Currently I spread my time between these activities in order to keep things fresh. With such diversity there are always new places to visit and explore. I'm looking forward to planning more multi-activity trips to some places further away in order to maximize the time and get an all around full experience of the area.
