Trip Report
This type of flatwater is exactly why I bought a kayak. From put in to take out, I was having a total blast. There was plenty of manuevering to do in order to find deep enough water to pass through some areas, but that's exactly why this trip was so much fun. You really kept entertained with the constant obstacles to overcome. We also had lots of areas where we had to drag bottom, but it was just harmless sand and pebbles. I highly recommend this creek to anyone, no matter the experience level because everyone will find it easy to paddle. Bring plenty of water and some lunch because it could be a long day if the water is low.
Location
The put in is on Westplains Road in Hickory, Kentucky. You can't miss the bridge. Our take out was on Clinton Road (S.R. 339) in Melber, Kentucky. You can't miss this bridge either. Both access points were overgrown and required care to get in and out of the water. Bring some straps or rope to use for lowering gear and people down at the put in and for dragging the kayaks up at the take out. There are two other take out points. One is located on Highway 62 which is 7 miles west of the Melber take out. The other is located on S.R. 121 near Cunningham, Kentucky which is 9 more miles west of the Highway 62 take out.
